“Fireflies” was released on July 24, 2026, marking the second official collaboration between Martin Garrix and U2 , more than five years after “We Are The People.”
The track came as a complete surprise. During his headline set on the Tomorrowland Mainstage on Friday, July 17, 2026, Garrix closed his show with an unannounced live debut of “Fireflies,” bringing U2 guitarist The Edge out on stage while Bono’s vocals played over the production.
The premiere instantly became one of the standout moments of Tomorrowland 2026’s opening weekend, with fan-filmed clips spreading within minutes. Garrix confirmed the collaboration shortly after on Instagram, writing “Fireflies with @u2 out soon.. premiered at @tomorrowland,” alongside a pre-save link for the single.
This marked the second time Garrix and U2 released an official single together, following 2021’s “We Are The People,” (actually this onwe was a collab with a part of U2 only: Bono and the Edge) released as the anthem for UEFA Euro 2020. The two acts have crossed paths several times since: Garrix produced U2’s “Your Song Saved My Life” for the Sing 2 soundtrack, and Bono has co-writing credits on Garrix tracks including “Angels for Each Other,” “Weightless” and “Catharina.”
