Martin Garrix
Forbidden Voices
On February 6, 2015, Martin Garrix releases Forbidden Voices as a free download, a move that immediately stands out at the time.
Built as a progressive house track, the song takes a more melodic and emotional direction compared to his earlier big room releases. No heavy drop, no aggressive elements, just a clean buildup and a melody that carries the whole track.
The official video plays a key role in the release. It looks back at Garrix’s journey, from his early days as DJ Marty to the global success of Animals. The visuals mix personal footage, touring moments, and milestones, ending with
a simple message of gratitude toward his fans.
The idea for the track came in a very simple moment. Sitting on a plane next to his mother, Garrix had the melody stuck in his head, repeating over and over, “ta da da damm, ta da da daam, ta da da da da da da da da da da damm”. That
loop would later become the core of Forbidden Voices.
At that point in his career, Garrix is already reaching massive numbers, with 10 millions of followers on Facebook and a rapidly growing global audience. The video itself quickly gains traction, reaching over a million views within
days.
Forbidden Voices marks a clear transition. A shift toward a more personal and melodic sound, and the beginning of a new phase where Garrix starts defining his identity beyond the early breakthrough.
