Released in March 2026, Catharina introduces a new step in the journey of Martin Garrix. For the first time, he takes the lead on vocals on one of his own solo releases, something he had never done before.
Garrix had already experimented with his voice in the past, especially on collaborations like Angels For Each Other with Arijit Singh. Here, the intention is different. His voice is no longer a detail in the background, it becomes the core of the track. The delivery is simple, almost fragile at times, which fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the song.
The track itself has been in development for over a year. In the weeks before the release, Garrix shared studio moments and short previews, creating a natural build-up without overhyping it. The first snippets already hinted at a softer direction, with a calm tempo, light melodies and a strong emotional tone. The final version stays true to that feeling, with a production that leaves space for the vocal.
The official video follows the same idea. Shot between Madeira and Amsterdam, it mixes wide natural landscapes with personal footage from Garrix’s childhood. The contrast works well, nothing feels forced, everything stays aligned with the mood of the track.
Catharina could set the tone for the upcoming album, expected later this year. The direction already feels more personal, with a clear focus on storytelling and emotion.
