Martin Garrix & Third Party
Lions in the Wild
Released on May 27, 2016, Lions in the Wild becomes one of the first key tracks in the early days of Martin Garrix’s own label, STMPD RCRDS.
Premiered a few months earlier during his opening at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, the track immediately caught attention. It marked a strong moment in his set, setting the tone with a powerful and emotional intro.
Built as a progressive house anthem, the track blends uplifting melodies with the distinctive vocal of Max McElligott. The combination gives the track both a cinematic feel and a strong festival impact, something that quickly resonated with the crowd.
Martin Garrix himself highlighted how important the track was at the time, describing it as a special moment that helped shape that performance and the direction he was taking.
The official video, directed by Giaro Giarratana, takes a more cinematic approach. Shot across Thailand and South Africa, it follows a journey through wide landscapes and raw environments. In a subtle detail, the director himself appears in the video.
Lions in the Wild remains one of the defining tracks of that transition period, where Garrix started building his own identity through STMPD, both musically and visually.

Looking out for a new horizon
Reaching out, I can almost see the place
Holding on with a heart that’s frozen
In the dark, but I am not afraid
No, I am not afraid
We’ll be free, but I don’t know where we’re going
You and me, this is our life, and we own it
Like lions in the wild
Like lions in the wild
Like lions in the wild
Looking out at the open skyline
Reaching out, I can almost touch the place
Where the lost ones find their freedom
In the dark, but I am not afraid
No, I am not afraid
We’ll be free, but I don’t know where we’re going
You and me, this is our life, and we own it
Like lions in the wild
Like lions in the wild
Like lions in the wild
Like lions in the wild
Like lions in the wild
