Martin Garrix
Oops
At the beginning of summer 2016, Martin Garrix drops Oops, a track that instantly stands out from everything else he was releasing at the time.
Built around a strong 8-bit inspiration, the track feels like a direct throwback to 90s video games. The melody, the sounds, even the structure, everything is designed to recreate that retro gaming atmosphere, while still hitting hard
in a festival context.
The artwork fully embraces that concept. It shows a pixel-style world where a character inspired by Garrix jumps between platforms shaped like his “+ x” logo. The number 1996 appears as a reference to his birth year, but also as a
nod to the golden era of platform games.
There is no official music video for Oops. But the visual identity is so clear that it almost feels unnecessary. Just by listening to the track and looking at the cover, the whole universe comes to life.
Simple, playful, and different, Oops remains one of the most unique instrumentals in Garrix’s catalog, showing his ability to step outside his usual sound while keeping that signature energy.
