During the winter of 2016, Martin Garrix meets Bebe Rexha in Los Angeles. She plays him a few demos, and one thing stands out instantly, her voice. Back in Amsterdam, Martin sends her a new idea, In the Name of Love. The track starts taking shape remotely, with both of them working on it through FaceTime sessions.
A few months later, in March 2016, Garrix premieres the track during his set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Even in its early version, the reaction is immediate. Fans know this one is different.
On July 29, 2016, In the Name of Love is officially released. The track marks a shift in Garrix’s sound at the time, moving into a more emotional and melodic direction while keeping a strong festival energy. Bebe Rexha’s vocal performance becomes a defining element of the song, giving it both power and vulnerability.
Shortly after the release, the two perform it live together for the first time at Lollapalooza Chicago, turning the track into a real on-stage moment.
The song quickly becomes a global hit, charting worldwide and gaining massive airplay. It also highlights another side of Martin Garrix, a more pop-oriented and emotional approach that would influence many of his future productions.
